MTV Makes Changes To Movie Awards

Things are going to be a little different at this year’s MTV Movie Awards.  “The Hollywood Reporter” says the network is making several changes to their annual ceremony, including swapping out several categories.  Best Villain, Best Jaw Dropping Moment, and Best Line From a Movie are among the categories being dropped in exchange for titles like Best Music, Best Onscreen Dirt Bag, and Best Gut-Wrenching Performance.  MTV is also adding an “academy” of actors, directors, agents and other industry experts to help vote on nominees.  MTV is hoping that the changes will add a little more credibility to their show, which has been criticized for just being a way for studios to promote their summer films.

Despite the changes, fans will still have their voice heard at the MTV Movie Awards.  Fan voting will begin on May 1st at MovieAwards.MTV.com.  The 2012 MTV Movie Awards will take place June 3rd at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California.
