Was Jessie J Forced to Hide Sexuality To Save Career?
British songstress Jessie J is nothing if not outspoken. But according to a new tell-all book, there’s one major detail about her life that Jessie’s reportedly kept mum about. In “Jessie J: Who’s Laughing Now,” writer Chloe Govan alleges Jessie has been forced to hide her sexuality in an attempt to keep her music career alive.
Many fans may recall that Jessie has openly called herself “bisexual,” but in the book, Govan claims that the star actually came out as a lesbian at 17. “Jessie might have been with boys in the past – but she is 100 per cent gay,” alleges the author. “Jessie was openly lesbian and didn’t hide it.”
So why did Jessie change her sexuality stance? According to Gavin, she was told by her record label to hide her lesbianism for fear it would kill her career. “She was advised not to come out,” the author writes. “Certain people thought being bi was trendy, exotic and a fashion statement. It would increase her allure.” Apparently, an incensed Jessie went along with the lie, for fear she’d lose her record contract if she didn’t.
To placate the angry star, record exes reportedly reminded Jessie about the rampant homophobia in the world today — and how that could have a negative impact on her. “There are so many homophobes, and there were fears of a career-damaging backlash,” states the book.
However, upon hearing the allegations in “Jessie J: Who’s Laughing Now,” Jessie herself took to Twitter to slam the reports. “Its funny how many people I’ve dated/slept with that I’ve never even met according to the tabloids,” JJ tweeted to fans. “BUT what’s that?! *whispers because its a secret* I’m really a lesbian?! Ha! Thanks for writing yet another boring untrue story. I thought I was still dating Tinie, NO Ellie G, NO Mark Wright….bla bla bla! #cantkeepup #noneofitstrue.”
Are the allegations in “Jessie J: Who’s Laughing Now,” really untrue … or is Jessie denying them to maintain her career-saving ruse? Only time will tell …
