THE 317: Five Super Restaurants in Indianapolis
Looking to get a bite to eat while you’re in downtown Indianapolis for The Big Game? Here are five suggestions from a football fan residing in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.
Hyatt Regency Indianapolis
1 S. Capitol Avenue
Indianapolis, IN 46204
(317) 616-6170
If you’re after a quiet, formal dining experience with a tremendous view, try the Eagle’s Nest, located atop the 21st floor of the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis hotel. The entire restaurant constantly rotates, providing diners with a 360-degree view of the city, including Lucas Oil Stadium. Entrees vary in price from $26 to $70 and include some unique dishes such as rack of elk and coriander duck breast. The Eagle’s Nest also boasts an impressive wine list.
Fogo de Chao
117 E. Washington Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204
(317) 638-4000
Do you like meat? What red-blooded American male football fan doesn’t like meat? For you Super carnivores, I recommend the Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse in downtown Indy. For $46.50 per person ($26.50 for lunch), you can stuff yourself with beef, pork, chicken, and lamb cooked in a variety of ways and served right at your table with a simple flip of a card. Fogo’s also has an impressive side and salad bar for those who feel the need to supplement their meat with a vegetable or two.
Mo’s – A Place for Steak
47 S. Pennsylvania Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204
(317) 624-0720
With most entrees ranging in the $30-40 range, Mo’s offers—as you might imagine from its name—steak, along with veal, chicken, pork, and seafood dishes. It also offers something of a rarity outside of Wisconsin, where it is a dining favorite: the option of hash browns as a side dish with their steaks. Mo’s has a huge number of wines to choose from and is a favorite of us Hoosiers.
Scotty’s Brewhouse
1 Virginia Avenue
Indianapolis, IN 46204
(317) 571-0808
When sports fans die, they don’t go to heaven. They go to Scotty’s. I’ve been here a number of times, including when it was the hub for fans of my alma mater, Texas A&M, during the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2011. I love the place. There are TV’s at every single table, all throughout the bar, and even in the restrooms. You can’t possibly miss a moment of sports. Beer is Scotty’s specialty, although they also have a full bar with multiple daily specials. The food is excellent, too. I highly recommend the Shewman Special and some dill chips. Good stuff.
St. Elmo’s Steak House
127 S. Illinois Street
Indianapolis, IN 46225
(317) 635-0636
St. Elmo’s is an Indianapolis landmark, operating in downtown Indy since 1902. It’s also a popular hangout for many of the Indianapolis Colts players, as well as Colts owner Jim Irsay. It specializes in steaks but also offers entrees of chicken, pork, and seafood for prices generally ranging in the $30-40 area, as well as an impressive wine list. Diners can also get a uniquely Indiana flavor through Indiana Amish chicken and any of the numerous products used by St. Elmo’s that are grown right here in the Hoosier State.
