The 317: Dan Wheldon Public Memorial Today
INDYCAR will hold a public memorial service for driver Dan Wheldon on Sunday, October 23 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Downtown Indianapolis. The event will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at 125 S. Pennsylvania St. This event follows his formal memorial service with his family and friends in St. Petersburg, Florida on Saturday.
Doors open at 1:30 pm and seating begins at 2:30 pm. The Virginia Street parking garage will be open free of charge to augment on-street parking.
The event will be carried live on Versus (Channel 46 on Comcast, Channel 72 on Bright House) from 4-5 p.m.
In addition to the public memorial, a website was set up for people to leave condolences and remembrances. A career photo retrospective plus links to other memories of Wheldon and a link to the Izod IndyCar Series’ Facebook page is at www.danwheldonmemorial.com
Also, the release said, the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund has been set up at a local bank. Contributions can be made beginning today at Fifth Third Private Bank, Attn: Dan Wheldon Family Trust, 251 N. Illinois St., Suite 1000, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
Wheldon died Oct. 16 of unsurvivable head injuries during a 15-car accident at IndyCar’s season-ending race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He is survived by his wife, Susie, and two young children, Sebastian and Oliver.
