Indianapolis – Around 8,000 Colts fans turned up at the Circle Centre Mall Friday afternoon for the Blue Friday celebration.

Last week’s event before the Ravens game drew between 5,000 and 6,000 fans. As the buzz builds up around Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Jets, more fans are taking note.

The Colts had four stations for autographs and free posters. Organizers said 8,000 was about the limit of the size of crowd they could handle.

Linebacker Barry Krauss, who played for the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts, said it’s all about attitude.

“These guys believe in themselves and they believe in the fact that this is our backyard, you’re not coming in our end zone. we’re gonna shut ’em down,” he said.

Of course, shutting down the opposition is Krauss’ specialty, having stopped Penn State short of the goal line late in the fourth quarter to push the Crimston Tide to the 1978 National Championship.

Joe Staysniak knows plenty about Super Bowls, having made it there twice with the Buffalo Bills. He talked about the odd match-up of the Colts vs. Jets.

“It’s kind of interesting. It’s very familiar to us in 1995, nobody expected us to go to San Diego or Kansas City or that Pittsburgh game for the championship. Really it’s the team that makes the fewest mistakes. The quarterback is the key to that,” he said.

Kickoff is at 3:00 pm Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. Jordin Sparks of American Idol fame will sing the national anthem. Foreigner will play at halftime.
