GOSSIP: T.I. Comes Clean About His Gun Drama
T.I. made an appearance on CNN’s Larry King Live this week. Right away, Larry asked the rapper why had he purchased the illegal firearms that landed him in prison and what was prison really like for him. T.I. seemed sincere and honest with his answers, explaining that his desire to have a gun came from a fear for his life. He told Larry:
“It came from an attempt that was made on my life. My best friend [Philant Johnson] had died in my arms. It caused a state of depression and paranoia. My judgment was jaded, and I felt my life was in danger. … At the time, when I felt the need to have these things, I never took into consideration the legalities; I only took into consideration the protection of my life and family.”
He then proceeded to talk about his time in prison and how that time help him reflect on his choices and what he will do with himself now that he is free. He explained:
“The main thing I can do to protect myself in the future is to understand my position,” he said. “I can’t put myself in an environment where it will require me to have a handgun. I just stay places where I can be cool. I have security now. … I take full responsibility for everything that happened to me. I’m a full believer that your life is what you make it. Society doesn’t owe you anything.”
All in all, the interview went pretty smoothly, save for one awkward moment when Larry asked if T.I. had ever pointed a gun at another human being. The rapper paused and then pleaded the Fifth.
Hopefully, all this stuff is behind him. He seems really contrite and serious about moving forward!
