Ravens Cheerleader Not Invited to Super Bowl Because of…2lbs!?
Brunette booster Courtney Lenz, 23, who has been pounding pom-poms for the AFC champs for five years, said she was floored when she found out last week she didn’t make the 32-member squad that would travel to New Orleans.
There are 60 cheerleaders on the team, meaning Lenz was one of 28 members left home on Super Sunday.
“I’m devastated,” she told the Daily News. “I had no idea there was a chance I wasn’t going to the Super Bowl. I figured, being a five-year veteran, I’d be chosen to go.”
Lenz said she was the only cheerleader with three or more years of experience who wasn’t given a slot.
When she asked her coaches why, they told her she’d had a “rough year,” she said. Fans of Courtney have even created a Facebook page for her, “Help Us Get Courtney to Super Bowl.”
Lenz said she was benched for two games for failing to make the cheer squad’s weight standards. The coaches also told her she hadn’t show up to enough off-field performances to qualify for a Super Bowl slot.
“They want you to be consistent with your weight. I think I gained 1.8 pounds. It’s ridiculous,” she said of getting benched.
